How to Plant a Tree

Dig a hole the same depth as the root ball and twice as wide. Hammer a stake into the hole slightly to one side, making sure it’s straight. Add some fertiliser pellets with a small amount of soil to the base of the hole. Remove the tree from its pot. Loosen some of the compact roots. Then position the root ball in the hole. Fill in the hole with the soil, mixing in fertiliser at the same time. This will help it get off to a good start. As you back-fill, occasionally stamp down the soil, making sure the tree is straight. Next, get your tree tie and fasten the tree to the stake. Don’t over tighten. Finally, add 2 inches of mulch at the base of the tree and then water well.
